The natural Asian Walnut will have a wide variety of colour that may range dark brown to light blonde. The darker colour can be slightly more prevalent due to the predominance of naturally occurring darker wood.

Heartwood is golden to reddish brown. Pieces with burl or highly figured grain are also seen, with the latter sometimes being called xylay pattern.
